Pre-1837 research

The government first introduced registration of births, marriages and deaths in 1837, but that doesn't mean that your ancestors' life events weren't recorded before then.

I use tried and tested ways to track down that elusive ancestor through parish records, rate books, newspaper cuttings and many more sources.
Lost in census?

England and Wales carried out meaningful censuses from 1841 but the way they have been transcribed recently means that sometimes people or whole families seem to just 'disappear'.

Using tricks I've learned over the years, I can help you find your missing relative and provide images to enhance your research.
