Set to work on trying to find Dorrie and Lionel’s emigration record today, but couldn’t get anyway. Plenty of L. Fords for Lionel, but nothing resembling a couple. Remarkably for the first time (why didn’t I think of this before?!) I thought I’d try Australian records for their marriage, as I have a photo of their wedding which must have been in Sydney. Hey presto - I find them in the NSW Registry of Births, marriages and deaths. Not only their marriage (incl. parents of both) but Dorrie’s birth, her parents’ marriage and Dorrie and Lionel’s deaths in 1965. The letter that I have from Lionel addressed to his sister Daisy (my g.grandmother) is received in England just after Lionel dies in Sydney. I wonder what the 2 siblings had ‘words’ about all that time ago? And finally, with googlemap’s streetview, I managed to trace Lionel and Dorrie’s home in Sydney - how small the world seems! Next steps: When did Lionel leave England?
