Found Hugh STANAWAY’s wife Honor PETERS in Phillmore’s parish register online for Probus, Cornwall. When googling his brother’s unusual name Melchizedek STANAWAY (which is an excellent way of seeing if any more info exists online - choose the most unusual name first!), I came across an amazing site cataloguing 100s of STANAWAYs, going right back to 1617!!! I haven’t taken all the info in yet, but Hugh STANAWAY’s mother, Thamisan HOTTEN, fits into the HOTTEN family. It seems that the son of Hugh’s nephew (so Melchizedek’s grandson) appears to have been a bit of a rogue. John James STANAWAY ends up in Australia and amasses 18 children over the course of 5 marriages!
