Just reviewing notes for my great grandfather and found a record of him on a passenger ship bound for Marseilles on 4th July 1914. WW1 was declared by Britain on 4th August, so was he stuck in France? Why did he go? He is listed as a Motor Mechanic and travelled 2nd class. Was he bound to buy parts? Visit friends? He has 2 young sons at this time - one only 9 months old. Curious.
